Rauta, the Supercell administrator of the official Clash of Clans forums, claims that too many people are accidentally selling their buildings, despite the confirmation dialog.
Various users have tried to convince Rauta that the Sell button should be kept since it would be the removal of a useful feature, but Supercell refuses to be swayed.
In the end, there really is not much long term benefit from selling a functional building.
I too can predict bashing But like I’ve said before, we need to focus on the big picture. If the upsides of removing the selling button is bigger than the downsides of keeping it, we will change it. Even if it causes bashing.
It’s a harmful update for those who would sell buildings as part of their strategy. The ability to sell buildings provides the players with a sort of virtual pawn shop, where the player has access to quick cash when needed. Despite the low 10% return and loss of time spent upgrading, selling buildings is still a viable option, and in strategy games, players love options.
There may be another reason why Supercell wants to remove the Sell button. Many players on the forum have complained that the current matchmaking system is harmful because it only considers the trophy count in the equation. Players are being matched with villages that have town hall levels that are not in the proper range, leading to match-ups where the available loot is penalized or villages where the defenses exceed the attacker’s ability.
It has been suggested on the forum that the total value of all structure levels should be considered in match-ups. If that were implemented, Supercell would want to remove the Sell button to avoid people from artificially downgrading their stats by temporarily selling unneeded buildings.
If you ever thought you might want to sell off some of your buildings, now’s the time to do it. Most updates occur early Monday morning.
The good news is that players will still be able to sell decorations, so while you cannot get the $100,000 quick cash that you would get from a skull wall, you can still get $10,000 from each national flag. Hint: If you’re out of builders and have maxed out your gold, buy some flags that you can cash in later. Decorations don’t require a builder, yet.
