• Say goodbye to the Sell button

Sell ButtonSupercell will be removing the “Sell” button in an upcoming update.

Rauta, the Supercell administrator of the official Clash of Clans forums, claims that too many people are accidentally selling their buildings, despite the confirmation dialog.

Sell ConfirmationRemoving is also the only 100% way to make sure such accidents don’t happen.

Various users have tried to convince Rauta that the Sell button should be kept since it would be the removal of a useful feature, but Supercell refuses to be swayed.

In the end, there really is not much long term benefit from selling a functional building.

I too can predict bashing But like I’ve said before, we need to focus on the big picture. If the upsides of removing the selling button is bigger than the downsides of keeping it, we will change it. Even if it causes bashing.

Selling skull walls for quick cashIt’s a harmful update for those who would sell buildings as part of their strategy. The ability to sell buildings provides the players with a sort of virtual pawn shop, where the player has access to quick cash when needed. Despite the low 10% return and loss of time spent upgrading, selling buildings is still a viable option, and in strategy games, players love options.

There may be another reason why Supercell wants to remove the Sell button. Many players on the forum have complained that the current matchmaking system is harmful because it only considers the trophy count in the equation. Players are being matched with villages that have town hall levels that are not in the proper range, leading to match-ups where the available loot is penalized or villages where the defenses exceed the attacker’s ability.

It has been suggested on the forum that the total value of all structure levels should be considered in match-ups. If that were implemented, Supercell would want to remove the Sell button to avoid people from artificially downgrading their stats by temporarily selling unneeded buildings.

If you ever thought you might want to sell off some of your buildings, now’s the time to do it. Most updates occur early Monday morning.

The good news is that players will still be able to sell decorations, so while you cannot get the $100,000 quick cash that you would get from a skull wall, you can still get $10,000 from each national flag. Hint: If you’re out of builders and have maxed out your gold, buy some flags that you can cash in later. Decorations don’t require a builder, yet.

I believe another reason they don’t want you to sell is because a lot of players are quitting and leaving their villages. But if they sell everything before they quit, it will just be a ghost town. If cant sell and quit, their town will continue to regenerate and provide an undefendable town for others to pillage. Everything about Supercell is shady! They never consider the end users perspective. I will never spend any more money on them, period.

Couldn’t agree more..this was the only solid statement we heard from them after the many outcries from the last update..that and the clan search and I believe this was for that exact reason as stated above as people were instructing others how to leave clash of clans without leaving your base open to an eternal lifetime of pillage and plunder for Supercells benefit and that was to SELL everything. Yes they are Shady and I for one are not holding my breath for a lifeline on the next update. No more money from me here either…

I thought some players wanted to sell structures to reduce the number on the map to:

      1) protect their remaining structures more easily (better coverage by defense structures)
      2) raise the percentage count of each remaining structure

why? why would you take the fun out of us? we only take it for fun. And because defending the town hall is very hard. You should never take the sell button. Many players will delete the application.

      • January 10, 2014 at 7:46 am

Absolutely agree. I will be deleting this app as well for this reason. What a shame. They just shot themselves in the foot by creating a GREAT game, and then ruining it with this B.S.

If you cancel a Town Hall upgrade (I’m 2 days in out of 8) will I get the full 2 million gold back that I could spend elsewhere? Thanks

You only get half of the original cost back if you cancel an upgrade.

Is there any way to destroy buildings? I don’t want my current build to be permanent…

Wow! I started playing this game for a while and the entire time I was playing I thought to myself ” If they had a sell button, this game would be 10x’s better!” Not only did they take out a good system for new players, they clearly upset a lot of veterans as well!

It would nice to be able to put a building permanently into inventory

    14. July 8, 2014 at 3:47 pm

I started playing this game without knowing about a cell button, and this is just stupid. What kind of idiot would get rid of a sell button! It’s better to accidentally sell something, therefore gaining money, than to accidentally build something, therefore losing money! Use your brain!!!

    15. July 8, 2014 at 3:49 pm

      Oops, I meant sell

This whole thread has not come up with a good point in two years. (With the possible exception of the guy wishing for a way to put something permanently away into an inventory)

—-There is NO reason why you need a sell button. At all.—-

The argument two years ago was that leaving a bunch of bases with resources somehow helps supercell? That’s idiotic; the less resources available, the more likely people are to buy gems. Having more resources does not help them at all.

The argument last year was that someone whined because they wanted their archer tower where they had a cannon. Buddy, just put the cannon right outside your wall if having it bothers you that badly. It’s still providing more DPS and more HP to your base, strengthening it in every way.

Then earlier this year David here tries to say that accidentally selling something ‘makes you money’ when, in fact, you lose 90% of the money you spent on it, and the time it took to make it, thereby LOSING money.

If there were a LIMIT to the number of structures you could have, I could understand people wanting to sell to make an ideal set up. BUT THERE IS NO LIMIT.

Buy everything you can afford, and have every building, because it just adds Hp to your base if nothing else! No matter where you place it. Don’t think it looks pretty? Stick it in a corner; that STILL takes time to kill and hurts your opponents’ attacks.

There is ONE reason that selling would be useful for; and that’s Clan War alt accounts (to lower your clan’s overall strength in match-ups), but I’m not getting into that, because I’m glad it doesn’t exist.

Getting rid of selling was a good thing. Period. No argument.

      • July 26, 2015 at 2:30 pm

Thats just your opinion and you know what that say about those. I for one would love to have the sell button. I have bought more walls than I need for my layout.. I could sell the excess use the cash to upgrade what I have. Sell button is a good thing. Period no arguments. See any one can post that. It doesn’t make it so though.

        • January 14, 2016 at 9:24 am

Well, just add those walls to your outer layer ones for more protection?? Couldn’t think of that??

    17. March 27, 2015 at 10:07 pm

Stupid morons, how can you build your base if you can’t get rid of the excess. You cannot just dump it in the corner because when your base will expand and you will need that corner sometime. This is the only game I know who removed the sell button. Shitheads.

      • May 19, 2015 at 11:30 am

Your the “shithead”. When your base expands, you will probably be using the god damned excess. HavING less shit makes it easier to star a base. And not every game is a clash of clans game. Shithead

The sell button was very useful too bad they removed it and used the money from people buying gems and made clash royal

      January 6, 2017 at 10:31 am

Infection, you are wrong in your opinion. There are good reasons to sell sometimes. I upgraded to th10 and mistakenly bought an inferno tower first. That purchase bumped me to the top position in wars over teammates with much more developed attack forces. It also bumped up our overall war matchup in wars so now our clan is losing because we are outmatched. If I could sell the inferno I would. I had no idea it would make such a difference.

      February 2, 2017 at 9:17 pm

Take my inferno I’m having the same problem.War for my clan mates is so much harder with my extra inferno tower I wish they could make an exception to where every month or so you could sell 1 item on your base. Now that would please me and make the sell button harder to get to instead of click on the items you want to sell and just like that be able to sell it. How about go to edit base remove item you are wanting to sell the click sell somewhere in the edit base option. Alright then I’m leaving this to you supercell.
