• State of “Clash of Clans”

    by  • December 21, 2012 • Editorials, Supercell, Updates • 71 Comments

First things first, I would like to thank mediapluck for graciously allowing us members of the Clash of Clans community to have an open and uncensored floor to share our views on the game.  I have grown frustrated with the current official forum due to the growing fascist attitude of Supercell and the trolling nature of senior forum members. Over the past few weeks, Supercell moderators have deleted or closed my threads, and I feel that it is now time to take my talents elsewhere. If you know me from the official forums, you know that I speak my mind about issues in the game and have a “no holds barred” attitude when it comes to that. Without further adieu, here is the state of “Clash of Clans” today, Dec. 21, 2012:

Since the start of my career in CoC, I have noted a surprising trend in the way Supercell updates this game.  They have chosen the riskier “surprise” method of updating. In this method, the company does not tell you when and how the update will occur, and are somewhat vague about the contents of each update. Sure, Supercell may show sneak peaks on their Facebook page, but those sneak peaks only show the flashy contents of an update to heighten the suspense of players. We never saw farming restrictions or the requirement of a builder for wall construction in a sneak peak did we?

If you have been playing this game for months, you might agree with me when I say that this game gets worse and worse with every update, and Supercell gets richer and richer with every update.  Instead of balancing the game, they only add more defensive structures and offensive upgrades, so that neither side is ever balanced.  There is no open line of communication between players and developers, and no player can really make a difference in this game (unless that player is Mr. Supercell).  This company has their own profit boosting agenda which gives the players the butt end of the deal, while they swim in the reported $750,000 they make each day.   I had believed that smaller companies like Supercell claims they are would offer better costumer service than what they do right now. There is a difference in being small and being cheap, and unfortunately for us, Supercell is the latter.  Many of the longtime members have abandoned this game, but some of us are still here, hopeful that the “major” update in January will change the game for the better.  If a change for the better is not seen, you can surely expect thousands of loyal players walking out the door on this greedy company.  The state of “Clash of Clans” is dire, but yet we remain hopeful….for now.

I am the leader of the premier clan Arkham Asylum in the game "Clash of Clans". Most of you probably know as the leader of the former top 10 clan, LEAGEofSHADOWS. Unlike some of the other sellouts on the official CoC forums, I am not here to infect you with bullshit. My purpose is not to sugar coat Supercell's actions, but rather to show you the big picture of what they are doing. Enjoy!

I think that a big problem is that there is no community outside of Supercell’s controlled one. The only information that most users get is from inside the game. If we can grow our voice, Supercell might actually listen. Editorials like this one are a big step in that direction.

They need to fix this game, i like it. But the updates are just a way for them to make money. Man, i hate to give it up, but soon i will have to.

Oh there is, the one that takes your and cares less about the game. As I progressed I found out the hard way how much BS it is. As soon as I waste my current gems I’m out! It just seems they’re only in for the quick buck. To that I say, it’s time the hackers start taking this game down.

I agree. I have had this game for over a year. It pisses me off so bad. You can’t even upgrade or save money once you get so far. Its nothing but a money making game. Also what the fuck is the reason for things taking so long to upgrade. It takes 2 or 3 weeks to save enough to upgrade something then it takes a fucking week to upgrade. Fuck you supercell. You money grubing pieces of shit.

I have to say I agree with you but it’s academic now as I can’t get back into the game since the new update. But I’ve made some friends and spent a lot and I mean a lot of money on this. If I could sue them I would!

      • March 12, 2014 at 7:06 am

I hate the matchimg system they should make it where you can only attack people from the same townhall because i just got attacked by a th8 and its unfair because i got attacked by alot of dragons and i couldnt even defend my base because of how impossible it is to stop dragons(green) i also dont like how i get attack by people with 1250+ trophies and im only at 1080 and they are much higher then me and they take everything! I cant upgrade my base if im always gettin attacked

I have been emailing and messaging them and they really just do not care with the players think! They do not care that the game is no longer fun! The only people I still see playing are those who have paid to much to quit but that is changing. Three of my top clan members just quit because of this stupid last update and they had a lot invested. Really sad what they have done. Making $750,000+ a day and that was just not enough for them…. I just put away 7 of my 8 villages and will delete my last one soon if the game is not turned around…. Oh, and every poor kid around the world was tossed to the wolves with that update. I am sure most have changed to a NON super cell game like I have….. Clash NO more!

A similar thing happened in a game called Mystery Manor. We all spoke out, and they were forced to make changes, as the players collectively joined together to drop their star ratings from 4.75 (they would give you diamonds for rating it a five) to less than a three, which really affected their profit. There were enough of us in their official Facebook page to make it impossible to remove all of the comments, and, like CoC, they were once on the top profiting list on the ap store.

As of right now, Clash of Clans doesn’t really have substancial enough problems for it to create the outrage we need in its players. They know that if they only make some things unfair its players won’t have enough to go off of to make a difference. What we have to do is patiently wait for them to make a huge screw up, and then we can revolt.

Completely agree, the updates should never be passed through with no notice, especially asbtheybradically affect gameplay each time.
I’m not sure what Supercell are trying to achieve (money aside), as there are plenty of claims about wanting players to enjoy, yet they seem intent of making players angry.
Having said that, they fundamentally ignore any of the great ideas passed around in the gmae which would enhance experience, so maybe it is all just about The Mighty Dollar after all.
Put one star ratings into iTunes and it will eventually change.
      Merry Christmas!

      Two points:

      1) In the Apple store, the last critical one star review is November 19. Nothing after that. Any critical reviews I post do not show up. Why? Has Supercell influenced Apple not to allow more negative posts?

      2) Since upgrading to Level 9, everyone I match to attack has only a few hundred gold and elixir, up to maybe 5-8 thousand. One after the other. I never see over that. Meantime, on my iphone, on a separate account, I am seeing the normal assortment, ranging from very little to up to a hundred or two hundred thousand.

This is insane. How can Supercell take away the ability to attack like this? If everyone knew that if they succeed in making it to the highest level, level 9, then they will no longer nbe able to attack, do think they would continue to work hard at the game like they are now?

        December 23, 2012 at 1:06 pm

I honestly feel bad when I come across somebody in global who has upgraded their town hall to level 8-9, but still has lvl 3 defenses. They won’t be able to progress unless the buy a ton of gems. Supercell does not even warn you of this when upgrading your town hall. Unfair/insane is putting it lightly, this is utterly rediculous

          February 3, 2015 at 1:02 pm

Hit the nail on the head Clasher…I was upgrading to TH9 when I was counseled about what was going on along with the fallout of upgrading and subsequently decided to CANCEL the upgrade, losing 1/2 my investment, but it was the best move ever. Now building up defense and offense to max of this level before moving up.

And btw…for those of you complaining about getting creamed by higher level players…there is an answer, which I am loath to provide but here’s a clue…you have consider all of the goals of attacking a base; it’s not just about resources.

There is a loot penalty for attacking lower level town halls. For example, when attacking 2 levels down, you can only receive half the loot you normally would

    6. Izzy Silverman
      December 23, 2012 at 1:18 pm

But here, it’s not a question of defenses. The issue is that Supercell appears to me to have manipulated the matching system so that level 9’s, who usually have pretty good attacking weapons, no longer have an incentive to attack anything.

Because it costs 50-75 thousand for one attack, it would be very foolish for a level 9 person to attack someone with only a few thousand gold and elixir. So, no attacks.

Since most people do not make it to level 9, and don’t know what will happen to them if they do, Supercell does not consider this a problem. However, because lower level players always complain about losing to attacks, Supercell figures that this will stop it. They don’t appear to care that someone who has invested so much time and money in a game might want to keep playing it.

      This is wrong.

      • Ron
        December 31, 2014 at 7:43 pm

I’m TH9, and I routinely find bases with 100k/100k or more loot. So much so that I farm with 100 archers/100 barbs/4 WB/12 gobs… low cost troops, no spells. Haven’t had to gem anything (other than barracks for 2 hour boosts) in ages. Have been steadily keeping my builders happy.

You’re impatient: keep working through bases until you find one worth attacking.

I would say that I’ve observed that loot stinks after an upgrade. I don’t know if it’s because they reset the clocks on dead bases so it take 12 or 16 hours for them to start ‘de shielding’ again.

    7. December 24, 2012 at 3:50 am

Did you guys consider that for newer players just starting your resource collection model of attacking and stealing (vs upgrading collectors and waiting) makes it nearly impossible for them to save up enough resources for major upgrades without someone like you stealing their resources, requiring them to buy shields to save up?

      • Dandy Don
        December 24, 2012 at 5:56 am

Of course we’ve considered that. However, COC should continue to allow players with level 9 to attack other players with substantial armaments and defenses. As it is now, there is NO incentive to attack. Zero. An entire way of game play has been eliminated, all of a sudden (it was not like this a month ago) with no warning. That is wrong.

        Why doesn’t COC allow that?

Supercell being to greedy, i have small action in my clan that told they to not update town hall until all defensive building upgrade to max. Playing this game for 4 month n i stop upgrade town hall at 8, with full regret, this game are turning from fun game to all people to rich boy only, i’ve found many of my clan member is a boy who spend their money to buy gem just for upgrade townhall.

Bottom line is once you reach a certain point in the game there is nothing to do….you cant find any logical matches…you cant get enough resources to upgrade….your only option is to spend tons of money to buy gems…you are left with no other alternatives…you either buy gems or remain in limbo….you need to have options I for one am just waiting on this new update if its not anything better click, delete this app is gone!!!!!

    11. Excus
      January 2, 2013 at 1:10 am

The problem is that Supercell simply doesn’t care that they’re screwing their players over. They don’t care that when I reach level 9, I won’t be able to PvP profitably anymore, because then I’ll either be forced to buy their Gems, which I’m sure they’re happy for me to do, or leave, which they won’t care about. If I’m not a paying player, they don’t care. If I was a paying player, then stopped, they don’t care. There are thousands more people to fill my gap, from the way they see it. All they really care about is the money they’re making, and so long as that’s there, they won’t listen to us.

      • Jcdoka
        February 11, 2013 at 10:19 pm

If you’re town hall is larger than the one you attack it reduces how much is available to be stolen. If yours is level 9 and who you attack is 8 only half of what normally would appear appears, if its two lower its a quarter.

Are you kidding me? They will sell they butthole for gems too hahah infact they might consider putting up a new update which consists of such an act hmm it would be lick click to 5000 gems to give supercell a super buttfucking lol fact is I deleted this game coz they are tons if better games on a pc/laptop etc why would anyone want to waste they time and money on a game that’s just the size of an iPhone/iPad screen , there’s tons of better games better graphics more better user interface plus multiplayer and chat modes with them.. i did play this game but frankly speaking I found it to be a very boring game with nothing new but the same thing over and over again it doesn’t make sense at all , ever seen a game soo stupid ? January 29, 2013 at 3:32 pm

Wait i dont agree with some of this stuff

first of all, when you can’t find any good loot/players surely its time to farm? of course it would be benificial for players but would make low level players outrageous.
If supercell DID screw this up, they have the back up game, Hay day at the moment is 3rd on the app store. Yes, you have to spend money to progress but overall, players dont realise how money hungry this is, by this i mean ordinary players not these forum players. check the official supercell forum, they never protested on anything really. And im bored right now as i have only 2 builders and are available 2 days later, that is the mean strategy to getting money! they wouldnt make a profit out of this. Think of the staff, maintainence, other stuff they need money for.

    18. IDNTA
      February 1, 2013 at 3:12 pm

I’ve just submitted a 1-star review on the App Store (UK). I doubt it’ll see the light of day. The recent reviews which show up only say how amazing the game is.

      Here’s what I put:

I’m not a “gemmer”, though I’ll admit to spending around or just over £100 on this game to start with. Now because I’m not feeding the Supercell beast with my hard-earned money, I can see the game for what it is. Pure greed from SC.

All my gold mines and elixir collectors are completely upgraded to level 11, yet each only produce 3000 gold/elixir per hour! That’s ((6*3000)*24) = 432,000 of each resource per day. My building upgrades, spell, and army upgrades are all around 800,000 each – and I’ve got many upgrades I still need to do. It will take weeks and weeks to do this.

Why if upgrade costs go up ‘exponentially’, doesn’t resource mining/collection also go up “in line with inflation”?!

This game is unsustainable long-term, unless you feed the greedy beast lots of money. This game isn’t free, it’s very expensive and/or very tedious.

      • IDNTA
        February 1, 2013 at 3:24 pm

I forgot to add that I’m on TH Level 7, and I’ve never attacked anyone, though I still get attacked a few times a day anywhere from 1 or 2 stars, to 100% gone (unusual). I’ve got 145/150 stars on the goblin maps as well.

All I want is to be able to be ‘involved’ in the game with very little expense of time and money. I’d be happy to put money in if I knew it was well-spent instead of wasted.

I really can’t understand how upgrades very quickly go from being priced correctly and completing in short time to being insanely ridiculous (very expensive and taking 5 days to complete?!). That would’ve been unheard of in the days of Warcraft 1 and 2.

One key example: All my wall blocks are at the same level, next upgrade is 200k each. Where am I going to get that from when it takes 12 hours to mine that much gold?!

            December 31, 2014 at 7:49 pm

Yep. Since barracks boosting is 1 gem right now… try this: gem your barracks (4 gems) and go into power attacking for two hours. Build up new troops while you attack (queue things up). That way you don’t have to wait too long between attacks.

I make enough with this farming technique to keep my builders busy.

Don’t whine to me about barracks gemming: its low cost (especially right now) and you do get free gems in limited quantity from the game.

If you’re really stingy… only gem two barracks.

Can you really believe that these guys are sitting here with a game. They designed one little green piece of graphic and call it a gem. That one little graphic costs real money. The game is just a compilation of files already created. The top people at Supercell are sitting back and saying “This is awesome!” We put a high price on a necessary item in the game (for it to be fun) which costs NOTHING to duplicate. They get real money because the game is fun and addicting. Remember age of empires? It’s like that only they charge you to have fun. I’m not going to stop playing or anything, but I will continually give bad ratings for poor business ethics. I have paid for gems, but only from a gift card so cost opportunity for me was eliminated. People are going to pay 5 times more than they would for halo, For gems. I am a programmer, this game is Incredibly easy to make. It’s just like bottling water. When you can get people to pay for something where the profit is infinitely larger than the cost (very little) you win but aren’t respected. The cost of running the company is not included in Margin! imagine $750k a day for literally selling nothing! Wow. That doesn’t seem right. A simple fix to this would be to drastically reduce prices for gems. If the most expensive thing was 10 dollars they would still be laughing all the way to the bank!

Extremely unfair for me when I start playing COC but only to find that I’ve been raided by people who are almost 20 levels higher than me. The matchmaking is unfair as the game constantly forces me to raid others who have levels higher than me.

I love CoC. I am not a gemmer. hell. I havent given Supercell a single penny for gems. I Understand in what position most of you are in. and I could have a small solution. WHo cares how much money supercell gets. but you could simply do something else while your upgrades finish. and if you are getting raided often. Log in often so yours collectors can continue making resources with a free shield. I say this is a fuzz over impatient players. And if you would like to Hate on CoC and SUpercell. go right ahead. But don’t screw it up for the people who DO enjoy the game.

Surprisingly, my suggestion for the ability to either gem farm or trade gold or elixer for gems won’t show up in the reviews. Supercell is just milking the kids for their iTunes gift cards

I completely agree with you. The game is only fun up until Townhall 7. After that it takes too long to upgrade and collect loot. When you do know of an upgrade (they can’t hide it all) it’s basically like you need to not play for a couple weeks because there is no loot. With this last update it is impossible to even get ahead so I quit playing. You can never get enough loot to even cover a BAM army. The moderators do troll the forums so you can’t say one drop of negative information. Eventually they will run out of smart people who play, same as what has happened to other fad games. I will be sure to never play any Supercell game though, so they lose even more if all people were this way. Also, does anyone know how to delete your account from the forums or is it like I understand that they own you once you sign up? I also want it deleted off my ipad, is there a way to do that permanently, not just hidden? I am even willing to delete my apple account to do it. I wish it was illegal for them to own your email address but I have learned a lesson and will use a Spam account next time I join a foreign game.

Thanks for providing a non-supercell place to vent!

All you have to do is drop trophies. This means if you drop down to like 1000 trophy level you can now have huge raid and gain up to 400 elixir on a single raid. YOU MUST TROPHY DROP PEOPLE!!! IT works.

The fact there are so many people that care about these games to this degree shows the state of the pathetic world we live in. We need an asteroid to hit earth and give another species a crack at this.

CoC cannot be regulated and, as players get further up the leagues if they have not paid real cash they are programmed by the game managers to always lose in the hope that a combination frustration and their addiction to the game makes them start spending real cash. This is wholly unethical but nothing can be done, other than a mass boycott, because they are unregulated.

Some bloggers here say it is down to players skill to progress but I have analysed this carefully and I disagree. The first thing that happens is the attacks come from other players with more trophies rather than matched trophies.

Second you are regularly presented with targets with extremely low loot making it impossible to recover the Elixir you expend in the attack. I have had to regularly look at 10+ targets before even a mediocre target pops up, costing me dearly in Gold.

Third, when an acceptable target is reached it becomes one that is increasingly very heavily defended by advanced cannon cross-bows etc.

Fourth, 80% of all targets attacked have hidden clan forces waiting in the Clan Tower to counter-attack.

Fifth, and most iniquitous of all, instead of giving shield cover during each post attack re-training period in order to get ready for the next attack, which always happened in the earlier stages of the game, attacks start coming while your troops are still undergoing training and seem to nearly always take 2 -300,000 + of loot. A level of loot rarely seen when I am searching for targets to attack.

I have raised this latter point 4 times with supercell, including sending them a photograph of the event record from an iPad photo and they have just not responded except with holding replies that never get followed up.

A disgusting addictive game purely designed to extract shed loads of real money from people of mostly modest means.

Me and my pal owned a clan..Its too slow and boring..played the game for a year .and found that its the same thing over and over again…too slow and time consuming for my likes..the game felt good at the start…but then later for me and my friends it didnt work out so we kinda deleted n left the game straight up..looting had gotten harder ..defending became even more hard as higher level players easily got matched with lower levels..we did buy more builders but still..with a job and family its too difficult to take out countless hours ..besides we all have to give time to our society n friends..its a great game for students n folks who have time…another main problem with this game is that its business created on the bases of never a ending game and never ending need to spend money…and to actually take out cash from peoples pockets..even life has an end..everything does or it will get boring..
the need of human desire to have a good game on todays high tech hand device..but supercell is smart making its bank balance heavy becoz they know they wont last long..coz when sega came play station followed and soo on..and as technology grew we humans dropped the older tech flat..so soon i do have hopes for better games and creators to emerge .chèers

Supercell have completely orchestrated this game to make you spend money. They programme everything, including your specific game to ensure you can only progress if you buy things with hard cash. This ought to be subject to censorship from consumer watch dogs but Supercell hide in cyber space with no national legislator able to control them. My gem supply has now been stopped from trees and log objects because I was using them to shield myself in order to progress. A disgraceful company that should be boycotted.

Why don”t we start a clash action law suit against these guys? If you pay for something and they change it after the fact, you should be refunded because of breach of contract. I say we do it.
